HB 4005 (2026)
Would have mandated AI ethics instruction for students in grades 3, 6, 8, 10, and 12, covering ethical, moral, and educational uses of AI. Passed the Arizona Legislature but was vetoed by Governor Hobbs on June 19, 2026 over concerns about charter school parity and curriculum development authority. Sponsors are expected to reintroduce a revised version in 2027.

Would require public and charter schools to adopt written AI policies covering authorized student and educator AI use, detection of AI use in student coursework, and data protection guidelines for AI tools. Arizona legislature adjourned sine die before the bill reached final passage. Expected to return in the 2027 session.
